Bird Nest Cookies

Bird Nest Cookies are a baking favorite this time of year. Since Easter is upon us, we thought it would be fun to make some up ourselves!
We had most of the ingredients on hand

with the exception of the frosting. So, being frugal, we thought we would  be baker crafty savvy, and experiment with what we did have to make frosting with!

This is what we used for the Bird Nest Cookies:
Boxed cookie mix. To frost the cookies we used marshmallow cream {remember we didn't have frosting ingredients}

Shredded coconut tinted with green food dye for the nest.

 Speckled jelly beans for the bird eggs.
So we set about mixing and baking our cookies. Cooled them down and frosted them with what we thought would be a creative idea, marshmallow cream.Sprinkled on the coconut and decorated them with the jelly beans.

All was fine and dandy until we noticed, that although the cookies were cool, the
 marshmallow cream was beginning to shift and move around in some melting motion?!!
The cookies tasted perfectly fine, we just did not care for the messy look of the marshmallow cream.

Lesson learned: Do not frost cookies with marshmallow cream!
Marshmallow cream is better left to making fudge, crispy treats and the like!
I guess it goes without saying that we are by no means "bakers" in the true sense of the word! Just like to have a little fun in the kitchen changing things up!
Well, we won't be trying this frosting idea again, but, we will be dusting off the flour and getting back to that mixer and baking  another day! We have to redeem oursleves!

 Keep it Homespun!

The fruit of the righteous is as a tree of life,
And he who wins souls is wise.
