Valentine's Morning Coffee & Donuts

Breakfast awaits you! There is nothing nicer than sharing a meal with those you love. In this case, coffee and donuts. On Valentine's Day morning, why not serve up something with a little heart from home sweet home! Heart shaped donuts and coffee for the adults, and milk and donuts {in a special grown up cup}, for the kids! This sweet surprise is sure to make a lot of hearts happy and strike up good conversation. Serve these with a little protein on the side and the day is off to a pretty good start!

Our idea for a special Valentine's Day coffee and donuts breakfast came to mind while at Target we saw a heart shaped donut pan and of course it being Valentine's Day soon, we had to snatch it up for about $12.00. We considered the many uses we would get out of it not just for Valentine's Day, but throughout the year.

And here is the lovely little pan that started the whole ball rolling. It a nice sturdy weighted pan from Nordic Ware.

The recipe on the back made it even easier to start this idea into motion. Simple, straight forward ingredients that can be easily found, and easy to follow recipe. So we followed the recipe..... almost to a 'T". We substituted the melted butter for coconut oil. Our experience in the past with baked donut recipes calling for butter is that they are drier than we prefer. The coconut oil lends a little moister donut and adds to the overall flavor. We were able to get 12 heart shaped donuts and 14 mini donuts out of one recipe.

Instead of icing the donuts with powdered sugar, we used Wilton's red candy melts. We love the eye appeal of the candy melts much better than the icing. And it tastes pretty good too. Used some Valentine's sprinkles and let them set up.

To really seal the deal sorta speak, we came across these O so fabulous, heart pounding coffee cup wraps from Eat Drink Chic, and fell head over heels in love with them! We had some left over hot liquid paper cups from Christmas that we used as our coffee cups. The wrap worked  perfectly to cover up most of the Christmas design on the cup with the exception of the red trim on the bottom and a few snowflakes near the top. That's okay, the colors and patterns still worked well with what we were going for.

To add a little more pizazz and to cover up a bit of the cup logo, we used some Valentine stickers on the lids of the cups.

Love the guys red high tops and tie!

We already had found and printed out this sweet print form Spirk Space and were just waiting to use it. Well we found the perfect way to use it. We had some paint chips in just the right color combination and decided to make a little frame garland and tie in the garland from the coffee cup wraps.

We thought we would dress up our donuts just a bit more by making a little flag from the paint chips and taping it onto a tooth pick.

We hope we have inspired you to think about surprising your loved ones with a special coffee/milk and donuts Valentine's Day breakfast. Be inspired, get creative!
