Symbolic Easter Tree

Did you know....
The Easter tree tradition has its roots deep in German custom. When German settlers took up home in the states, many brought with them the Easter tradition of decorating trees with eggs. This symbolized rebirth, renewal and resurrection.{source and read more}

Traditionally Easter trees are tree branches, as evident in our tree last Easter. So forgive us as we branch out a bit this Easter, and use a different type of tree medium.

Our tree was a thrift store find some time ago. We wanted to change up the traditional look of the branch Easter tree and try something a little more modern, and basically, use what we already had. So we pulled this out of the attic and turned it into our Easter tree!

We found some metallic and pearl looking eggs at Target to hang on our tree. For the longest time we have had kicking around some silver beaded ornament hooks we finally used. We had to bend the hook some and, stick it into some of the eggs to hang them.

We like the little bit of added sparkle the hooks bring to the tree.

For the top of our Easter tree we topped it with a homemade cross we made from pipe cleaners, and wrapped multi-colored thread around it in the perfect theme shades.

Did you know that in Pagan times, the egg represented the rebirth of the earth, which allowed people to become hopeful after a long harsh winter.

With the coming of Christianity, the Easter egg became a religious symbol. The egg changed from representing nature’s rebirth to the rebirth of man, through Jesus Christ's death, burial and resurrection. The hatching Easter chick became a symbol of the tomb from which Jesus emerged. {source and learn more}

We love having an Easter tree as part of our Easter decor. Looking beyond the pretty colored eggs to the symbolism speaks to the heart and soul to the true meaning of why we celebrate Easter. Be inspired, get creative!

Let not mercy and truth forsake you;
Bind them around your neck,
Write them on the tablet of your heart,

And so find favor and high esteem
In the sight of God and man.

Proverbs 3:3-4
