Summer Sun Catchers

Let the sunshine in!

We have a a really simple, green project for you to do with the kids today! Have you saved some clear plastic lids and just been waiting for an idea to use them with?! Make some summer sun catchers to hang in your windows like we did here. Not only are you doing a "green" thing, but you are spending quality time with the kids, teaching creative expression and bring a little beauty into your home environment!

You will need Mod Podge, paint brush, tissue paper, clear plastic lids, dental floss, sharp object to make a small hole and a curtain rod.

We had a few saved lids in different sizes that we used for this project.

We used tissue paper from our scrap paper collection.

Tear to your liking pieces of tissue paper and paint Mod Podge onto the torn pieces of tissue paper.

Place the Mod Podge paper pieces onto the inside of the plastic lid.

Keep applying paper as desired.

Set aside to completely dry. Once the lids are try, poke a small hole in the lid and run a piece of dental floss or string through and tie off. We used a tension rod to hang our summer sun catchers on in the kitchen window.

And here they are! We opened the shutters to show you how they look. Normally we keep the shutters closed with the flaps open.

Just a little something fun to do with the kids this summer to add a little summer color!
Be inspired. Get creative!

Take away the dross from silver,
And it will go to the silversmith for jewelry.
Take away the wicked from before the king,
And his throne will be established in righteousness.
Proverbs 25:4-5

  1. This is such a cute project! If I had little kids at home I would definitely make this with them. I miss having little kids in the house! Mine are almost 16 and 11 now. Hope your week is going great Kristin! Angie xo

  2. We don't have blinds or curtains on the windows in our kitchen so these would be great. May have to do them next week! Stopping by from Tater Tots and Jello link up.
