Pilgrims and Friends:{Kids Learning Activity}

Learning Through Play.Did you know: What is now undeniably clear in the 21st century is that play is essential, vital, critical, and fundamental to a child’s social, emotional, physical, and intellectual development. Without adequate, healthy play, children run the risk of entering school unprepared, growing into teens and adults without needed skills, and failing to meet their potential. Experts at the Institute for Play believe that healthy play in childhood can even prevent violence. Source .
So with that in mind, we offer you a fun Thanksgiving learn through play activity.

Now is the time to encourage our children to play and give them a playground rich in learning experiences.

These little Pilgrims and Friends are a really great way to teach children about the First Thanksgiving as they play along. These are quick and simple to assemble. We found these over at The Toymaker.
Just download onto white card stock, print, cut and fold. You may need a little tape also.

The First Thanksgiving (Tune:The Muffin Man )
The Pilgrims came to America
America, America.
The Pilgrims came to America
a long, long time ago.
They sailed on the Mayflower
the Mayflower, the Mayflower.
They sailed on the Mayflower
a long, long time ago.
They made friends with the Indians
The Indians, the Indians.
They made friends with the Indians
a long, long time ago.
They planted seeds. The corn grew tall
The corn grew tall. The corn grew tall.
They planted seeds. The corn grew tall
a long, long time ago.

This is a cute little song you can sing with the kids to teach them a bit about the First Thanksgiving and get them to connect the Pilgrim figures with the actions of the song.

These are perfect to have at the kids Thanksgiving table this year. They are fun, festive, educational and free!
Remember, keep it Homespun!
